2003 State Cup

Eagles SC U14's Rule!

This has been a banner year for the Eagles Soccer Club. Four of our teams have earned results in state cup play. The U11 and U13 boys both made it to the final four, the U18 Girls made the final and are now 2003 State Cup Runners Up, and finally, we take our hats off to Tom Sprout and his U14 Boys - the 2003 State Cup Champions. Here's their story...

Fall 2003 the new U14's and their Coach set a lofty goal - we are going to win state cup this year! The team enters its regular season play, full of quality opponents. As if that is not enough to test their metal, they enter high level tournaments against some of the nations best including The Chicago Magic. During the Nike Cup they reap the rewards from playing all of those tough games. The Eagles boys down the #8 team in the country (the Carmel Cosmos), and win the tournament! "From there, things really started to click for the boys" - said Coach Sprout.

May 11th - its time to try to realize that pre-season dream. The State cup tournament is here. Game one, Worthington United 1, Eagles SC 4... Game two, Daytons United Rapids 0, our U14's 1... Game three, Ohio FC Azzurri 1, team Eagles 4! On to the FINAL! The Blast FC came ready for battle and lead much of the game by as many as two goals. Coach Sprout knew his boys had the ability to come back - they proved coach right, evening the game at 2-2 in the last ten minutes of regular time. And that is the way it ended, even up. Anyone who knows soccer knows the pressure of overtime. The fatigue, the confidence shaking stress. Our boys were not to be denied. One minute into overtime, the Eagles scored the golden goal for the win - Their dream had come true! Our U14's are State Champions!

Congratulations to Aaron, Jordan, Jake, Chris, Tito, JC, Tanner, Ted, Steven, Dan, AJ, Tyler, Patrick, Bryan, Daryl, David, Evan, Coach Tom Sprout, Asst. Mark Murphy, and Director Andrew Kessinger. Your positive spirit and love for the game shine bright and true!

Our U18 Lady Eagles make the final. Earn runner up spot! Well done ladies!
